Wednesday update from Mon

by Administrator, under Updates by Mon

Hi All,

Apologies for the lack of comments in the last few days…. a couple of good and busy days, but a little set back today.

The swallow seems to be coming along OK but with the gastro last night / today, the scope test to give an official verdict has been delayed until tomorrow.

Mike had a good day yesterday with two sessions in the chair. He drove the chair by himself and will graduate to his own chair tomorrow so hopefully will spend some more time upright.

Most importantly Mike managed a “whizzy woo” spin around in his wheel chair — the smile on Ash’s face was worth a million dollars.

A huge thankyou to Telstra for organising a 3G card to get me online at the hospital which is fantastic.

Also a big thankyou to Sam and Jenny Bailey. You might remember their Australian Story episode. I have struggled to put the copy of ‘Head over Heels’ down since it arrived.

Finally, the usual huge thankyou to all the staff at the austin – you are all amazing and we cannot thank you enough.

Tomorrow will be quite busy with the scope and kinesio session – will give update tomorrow when we see if he keeps any “food” down tonight.

Thanks to everyone for your messages of support, for the visits that keep Mike’s spirits up and for respecting when he just needs to let his body heal itself.

Thanks,
Mon.

    Dear Mike and Monica,

Just want to let you know that we are all still hanging on every update, cheering with every sign of progress and hoping that telepathy will get some good vibes coming through in between. We loved the video, and have that great smile of yours freshly ingrained in our psyche. Hope to see it first hand when the time is right but we are thinking of you constantly nonetheless.

Love and our very best wishes,

    Julien, Anne and kids.

Mon, it’s great to hear you’ve been able to get in contact with Virginia. Staying in touch with family, friends and the outside world will be so much easier for Mike now :o )

We have just seen Mike this morning and he was beaming. He has had the tubation removed — no tubes! He has to be careful to chew well (not a well learned habit for Mike)and he will eat without visitors so he concentrates as aspiration would be awful for him and set him back apace. Pete arrived this morning and they have had a good brotherly chat. We are all concentrating on massage on paralysed areas as we talk. Mike’s spirit continues to be inspiring for us. He is trying a left handed electric wheelchair after physio.

Wonderful news Mike and so nice to know that both your first and second beloved families are with you. You have all been amazing and while I have often worried about the toll it must be taking on you all, I have more often been in awe of your inspiring courage and determination. I can’t think of a more formidable force than you backed by all your loved ones Michael – I think adversity may have met his match! I follow your blog daily and more than half my heart and nearly all my thoughts have been with you all – especially your precious mother.
    Love and good cheer
    Libby
