Mon – Thursday

by monicaf, under General

Hi All,

Another big day for Mike in terms of visitors, physio and occ therapy.

I made the lovely speech team at the Austin sad with my comment about the swollow getting us down so I have promised them that I would say something wonderful about them! Thankyou to Allanah, Kim and Dammo – you guys are fantastic. Lovely Allanah comes each morning to sit patiently with Mike and feed him a few mouthfuls of food so that he gets the taste in his mouth —- now just make that swallow work!!!

Mike’s work colleagues had a big meeting in the spinal unit common room – which we have re-named “Bov Support Area”. They got to see Mike in his wheelchair again. Thankyou all for coming in and for your gifts for Ashley.

Also, thanks to Bedri and Rob for their continuing financial organisation …. I would be lost without your help and guidance.

Hoping to get Mike’s computer set up tomorrow so he can read all of you messages himself. He will also dictate a message for me to type in.

If I can work out the calendar, I am going to try to block out most of tomorrow for visitors – he is stuffed and really needs to get some rest. He loves his visitors but feels like he needs a rest day. Give me a ring if you are keen to come in and I will let you know how he is tracking. Thanks for your continuing support – I believe that fund raising details are almost sorted so will start getting some of this info up on the site soon.

Hi Michael,

I hear through the sport grape vine that you have had an accident on your bike & ended up in a spinal unit, which as I know is not the most pleasant place to spend time.

I’ve been thinking about what I can say/do to support a fellow athlete & I’m not sure if anything I say will make any difference to the situation you find yourself in.

I recall my time back in 1988 when riding my bike training for a triathlon I was hit from behind by an eight ton truck which broke 17 bones including my back & damaged my spinal cord at T12 looking back a few things made a massive impact on me which changed my life forever. The biggest was I’m still alive & that the sun continues to shine. The turning point for me was when I realised I’ve had an accident & now life will be different so what am I going to do about it & I needed to look at life from a different angle & so life started to unfold with that shift of focus.

We you & I are capable of so much more than we ever think possible.

Mike’s Calendar Now Online

by markm, under General

Hi Folks

You might have already noticed the new MIKE’S CALENDAR link up the top of the page (just above “Go Daddy”) and on the right in the sidebar.  This is a link to new page that Mon and I will keep updated with Mike’s planned activities in hospital and let you know if he’s OK to have visitors.

Visiting Hours at the hospital are 11am to 8pm, 7 days per week.

If you’re thinking of visiting in the popular times of after work and weekends, it’s probably not a bad idea to let me know roughly when you’re thinking of visiting and then I can put that on the website too for others to see and they can plan their visits.  It will be better for Mike to spread visitors out, rather than have them all arrive at the same time.

My contact details are mark.mathews@bearingpoint.com or send me an SMS to 0417 346 138.

Cheers
Mark M
